The Little Home Bakery, an operation that’s not so little these days.

If there ever was a glowing success story developed by a migrant couple in Western Australia, it would have to be that of The Little Home Bakery.

The Little Home Bakery, operated by Glenn and Carmen Marder has in a period of 18 years grown from a one-man bakery to an operation of 60 people operating as a wholesale and retail bakery.

The story of Glenn and Carmen begins in 2005 when, living in Germany with no plans to leave their country of birth, they saw an advertisement for the Little Home Bakery which at that stage was operated in W.A. by German born baker, George Plesch.

He had  started the business in 1992, was keen to retire, had been unable to find a buyer locally so as a long-shot, he placed an advertisement in a publication  in Germany with the hope that  someone there might take up the opportunity to buy a bakery in Western Australia that specialised in German style breads.

And that is how Glenn, a German master baker and Carmen, a qualified pastry chef, discovered the business and decided to migrate to Western Australia.

Nowadays the Little Home Bakery operates 365 days of the year.

The wholesale side of the business supplies bread products to hotels, cafes, restaurants, major retailers and burger bars.

It delivers across Perth to clients as well as delivering to freight companies that take their products to businesses in regional areas such as Broome, Karratha and so on.

Further to that there’s also a retail side of the business that does home deliveries and retail sales from their bakehouse shop in Rudloc Road, Morley.

The Little Home Bakery has an enormous array of products: a range of German breads including buns and rolls, pretzels, pastries, muffins and  a renowned Baumkuchen cake (a cake that resembles a cross section of a tree – showing  tree rings) plus gluten free breads, muffins, biscuits, bagels, pizza bases  etc.

The gluten free side of the baking has grown to the point that it now represents 15% of the business.

So, after all that where does Major Motors come into the picture?

The Little Home Bakery has been using an Isuzu NLR45-150 fitted with a freezer for the past two years for its deliveries.

Glenn said this is a truck that is extensively used and he adds that he couldn’t be happier with it  and the back-up  provided.

From the point of view of Major Motors – it’s a thrill to be a contributor to this  outstanding  operation  - a business obviously giving  a great service and a fabulous success story.
