A career off to a great start

Just qualified technician, Connor Gillam is off to a flying start in his career as he has been selected as a technician from Major Motors to compete in Isuzu’s National Technical Skills Competition.

He is one of two technicians selected in the SA/NT/WA zone.

In taking part in the competition Connor underwent an online pre-competition held in September and was selected as being among the top two technicians and apprentices in each zone to be invited to compete at the ‘in-person’

Competition being held November 29 at the Isuzu Training Centre in Truganina.

The top two technicians from the 2023 National Technical Skills Competition will go on to represent IAL and the dealer network at the 2024 Isuzu World Technical Competition (commonly known as the I-1 Grand Prix) in Q4 next year.”

Connor said he was pretty excited at being selected.

At 24 years of age, he had only just completed his 4 year apprenticeship and added that he was so pleased that he had finally settled a direction for his career.

‘I have always been a hands-on’ sort of person. When I left high school, my interest was always in cars and mechanical work.  It took a while to finalise my direction and I’m so glad that I got the apprenticeship and am  heading in a direction that I enjoy and find interesting,’ he said.

Update:

Our congratulations go out to Connor as he placed second in the competition and will be going on to represent Australia in Japan for the international I-1 competition.

Well done!
